Windows Script Host utilities

The scripts of the current production environment are listed below. Each script is presented in a synopsis, a list features and a description of the command line syntax.

• definejob - Redefines source and target file paths of RealProducer job file
• duplicatecd - Transferes interactively image to CD-ROM copies
• editrminfo - Edits RealMedia file info from XML data
• editshapename - Displays and renames shapes of PowerPoint template
• makeimage - Prepares interactively CD-ROM images and disks from DV XML data
• metafiles - Prepares metafiles for published RealMedia content
• offsetpbl - Regenerates Adobe Premiere batch list with name conversion and timecode offset
• translatexml - Translates XML file according to directives in a XSL stylesheet
• xmlslides - Generates PowerPoint slides from XML data

Support libraries

The core functionality of the environment is supplied by a Windows Script file which is generated from the WSF XML source. This parent file calls another script which encapsulates the main functionality of the program. Enhancements of the Windows Script Host functionality is currently achieved through three VBScript support files which are referenced in the parent program:

• wscript.vbs - Handlers and validation of command line arguments
• error.vbs - Errorlevel constants, support for error handling and generation of error messages
• fileref.vbs - Library of general purpose file path processing functions

Project status

The Virtuosi Digital Video Production Environment is a project under development. Half a dozen additional vital utilities are still in the process of being formulated.
