Philip Donner's comments on take 1
These comments are based on the second simulation session on 02-09-2003 with MIDI VC Assistant (build 25).
- The notation lines are a bit too thin. Tandberg supports input from a VGA connection: 640 * 480 (VGA) and 800 * 600 (XGA) resolutions. The font should be changed to ensure that the horizontal lines are at least two pixel thick in both settings.
- The recording exposes buggy rendering of adjacent notes on help lines. The notes are placed correctly while the help lines are not.
- Discant and base keys correspond to male and female heads on the toolbar. It would obviously be more useful to mimic the keys directly.
- The last notation example was created with Sibelius and Matti displayed with a web browser equipped with the Scortch plug in. Matti's flexible use of the Sibelius software shows how easy it is to support a distance learning video conference by computer assistance. At the same time it is a reminder of the need for software which adapts well for vc use. Sizing and synchronisation between played and notated music leaves much to be desired.
